Mama Sara and her family were wonderful hosts
The last 9 months in Congo were full of excitement, work and good results. Anissa enjoyed her first school year in English and made many new friends. She learned to read, write, count and a little bit of French. In September she will go to school in Prague in Czech language. Lenka was healthy and only had difficulties with the heat especially when we had no electricity. In our project in Mushapo we were able to make a lot of progress.
At the moment we are working on a new video about our project and are preparing for our upcoming yearly two months round trip through Germany.
Robert and his partner Laurent build up the walls of the reservoir.
Worker digging trenches for water pipes from the school buildings to the reservoir.
Plumber connecting water pipes.
The water reservoir in Mushapo is almost finished.
Work on the new toilets has begun and fabrication of thousands of new bricks for the upcoming constructions is in full swing. We even got a second brick press to speed up the process.
Unfortunately there were also some setbacks this month. Two children in Mushapo died of typhoid because of lack of medical care. We are so thankful for the prospects of a Health Center being built soon right where it is needed. On our property a piece of land for it is already being prepared and cleared up out of the bush.
We found out that somebody had broken holes in the two big water containers which Jos had cut from SADRs water tower a year ago. This means that now in the dry season we have to carry water from the river which is 80 m down in the valley, outside the village.
Some robbers laid a trap with strings in which 2 of the 3 sheep which we still have left got caught. Thank God, the children of our school found them in time so they could get rescued before they would have died or been stolen. We are keeping the sheep closer to our camp now and make sure they are secured after dark.
In spite of any troubles which are part of life, especially in Congo, we keep our eyes ahead.
