The Urgency of our work
03.2015: The second school building is getting ready to be used soon. The windows and doors are done, put in place and painted. This happens just at the right time as two weeks ago during a huge storm the temporary school building which is facing the wind side got damaged so bad that it is unusable (Photo 32). Now we have to use some makeshift arrangements in other smaller farm buildings to teach the students who were using this building.
This shows the urgency to finish up the new brick buildings on our own land. We are concentrating on getting the 2 almost finished buildings ready so that the children can use them soon. After that we will concentrate on the 3rd building so that the whole school operation can be in these new buildings as soon as possible.
The new agricultural project has started. One hectare of pineapples are planted (Photo 34) and we are planning to raise a strong “wall” of fruit trees to break the strong winds which are coming from the North, to protect our new buildings.
Since the health care is so catastrophic in Mushapo and the surrounding area, we are working on plans for a small health center. This takes a lot of preparation and planning as it entails not just the construction work of the building but also the administrational side of getting the proper paperwork done, without having to pay bribes etc. Also, as with the school, we don’t just plan to construct the Center, but to see that it runs well. We need to find the right personnel and see how to finance the running operation of the Center etc.
There are also other things in the planning stage at the moment. Once the three school buildings are constructed, we need to get cement and make strong floors for these buildings. Also we’re planning to make proper toilets with septic tanks and a water reservoir to catch the rain during the rainy seasons for the dry seasons.
